On June 14th, 2025, Botswana Oil Limited (BOL) participated in Mookane Farmers Day. This annual event brings together farmers, community leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to discuss the opportunities and challenges in building a resilient agricultural sector and a sustainable nation.ย
This yearโs event was held under the theme, โThe Multidimensional Effect of Gender-Based Violence on the Overall Health of the Economy.โ
Government officials in attendance reiterated their support for the agricultural sector and pledged continued efforts to combat gender-based violence, especially in remote communities.
Speaking at the event, BOL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Meshack Tshekedi emphasized the companyโs foundational role in ensuring the security and efficient supply of petroleum products across Botswana. โWe were established by the Government of Botswana to support key critical areas of the economy, firstly, to ensure that the country has uninterrupted, reliable access to petroleum products, and secondly, to drive active citizen participation in the petroleum sector,โ he said.
Mr. Tshekedi highlighted that BOLโs import mandate has led to the growth of Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme intiatives particularly within the transport sector expanding the number of fuel transport trucks from under 50 to over 140, with a target of surpassing 300.
He encouraged stakeholders to form clusters to maximize support opportunities through Rural Energy Centres (commonly known as Mobile Filling Stations) or involvement in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution, a project BOL is advancing.
In conclusion, Mr. Tshekedi reaffirmed BOLโs commitment to responsible corporate citizenship. Through its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, the company continues to support sectors vital to national development including agriculture, mining, education, health, entrepreneurship, sustainability initiatives and many others. He highlighted that national progress requires collaborative efforts, as reflected in BOLโs partnership with Mookane Farmers Day and similar initiatives across the country.
