Mr Matshameko holds an M.Sc. in Energy Systems and the Environment from the University of Strathclyde (UK) and a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Electrical and Electronics from the University of Botswana.
He is a seasoned energy sector leader with over 20 years of experience in energy policy formulation, regulatory oversight, and technical advisory roles. Currently serving as Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Minerals and Energy (MME), he provides strategic leadership on policy, operational, and regulatory matters impacting Botswanaโs energy sector.
Previously, he held senior positions within the Department of Energy, including Deputy Director and Chief Energy Engineer, where he led the development and implementation of national energy policies and programs focused on supply planning, demand management, and conservation. He also served as an Interim Board Member of the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA), playing a key role in restoring governance integrity and guiding licensing and policy approvals for electricity and petroleum operators. His technical expertise and policy leadership position him as a valuable contributor to Botswanaโs energy transition and regulatory reforms.
